Walter (Dub) Hilary Castay Jr. died on January 24, 2025 in LaPlace, Louisiana after a long illness. He was born on March 3, 1940 in Jefferson, Louisiana. He was the son of the late Walter Hilary Castay Sr. and Lector Hicks Castay. His family relocated to LaPlace, Louisiana when Dub was a teenager and he attended Leon Godchaux High School in Reserve, Louisiana, where he met the love of his life Gail Boudreaux.
Dub owned and operated Castay Incorporated, an electrical generator rental company for over 60 years. He was also a licensed pilot and spent many happy years flying his twin engine Cessna all over the country, earning the name "Sky King" to his four granddaughters. He was an avid hunter, collector, card player, world traveler, and enjoyed the best things in life, but what he loved the most was sharing these things with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years Gail Boudreaux Castay, his son Walter Hilary Castay III and daugher-in-law Angela (Fulton), a daughter Leslie Castay Burkey and son-in-law Bryan (Burkey) and four beloved granddaughters Emma Castay, Esther Castay, Audrey Burkey and Camille Burkey.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff of Twin Oaks Nursing Home and Harmony Hospice for the loving care they provided in the final months of his life. Also, his caretakers Sonya Badon and Felicia Macon. Thanks also to his faithful friends who took this journey with us.
Services will be held on Tuesday February 4, 2025 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 529 W. 5th Street, LaPlace, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am with a Mass to follow at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers donations preferred to Wounded Warriors and St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
