Pete was a native New Orleanian and a proud graduate of John McDonogh Senior High (1965) and Southeastern Louisiana University (1970) where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon. He loved Mardi Gras, especially his years riding with the Krewes of Zeus and Bacchus. He loved the Saints, ever grateful for the chance to be there when they won the Super Bowl. He loved thirty years of weekends spent with his family and friends at his home in Bay St. Louis. He enthusiastically supported his children and grandchildren at their schools: Jesuit, Dominican, Christian Brothers, and St. Pius. Additionally, you could always find him at Betsy’s Pancake House for his standing Thursday lunch with his buddies.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Cherylynn Duhe Abercrombie, his son, Nathan Abercrombie (Kim), his daughter, Courtney Abercrombie Clark (George), three amazing grandchildren, Nate Abercrombie, Caroline Abercrombie and Eleanor Clark, and his brother, Tom Abercrombie (Becca). He was preceded in death by his brother, Clyde Abercrombie, and his parents, Raymond Abercrombie and Irene Abercrombie. Although our hearts are filled with sorrow, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, family and friends. May he rest in eternal peace.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 4640 Canal Street, New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 1:30pm followed by a Funeral Mass at 2:30pm. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please consider offering a donation to Jesuit High School, Dominican High School, Christian Brothers School, or St. Pius X School.
