

Scott Michael Smith, born on October 20, 1975, passed away unexpectedly on May 13, 2026, at the age of 50 in Kenner, Louisiana, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Affectionately known as “Woody” and “Smiley,” Scott lived a life filled with laughter, loyalty, service, and unforgettable memories.
Scott was the beloved husband of Alicia Barreca Smith for 26 years and the proud father of Blake Harrison Smith and Bryce Scott Smith, who were the center of his world. He is the cherished son of Glenn and Cheryl Strickland Smith; the youngest brother of Steven Smith (Emmaline Perry) and Shawn Smith (Flavia). Scott is the son-in-law of Michael Barreca and the late Sue Barreca as well as the brother-in-law of Stephanie Barreca (Dennis) and Michael Barreca Jr. (Gabrielle). He is the proud godfather of Taylor Smith and Zuri Smith. Scott was adored by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
For more than 30 years, Scott dedicated his life to serving and protecting his community through the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, where he proudly worked his way to becoming a Juvenile Intensive Probation Detective. His commitment, integrity, and larger-than-life personality left a lasting impact on countless friends, colleagues, and members of the community.
Outside of his career, Scott truly lived life to the fullest. He was known for his sharp sense of humor, quick wit, love for people, and ability to turn any gathering into a memorable event. He was an active member of the Divine Mercy Men’s Club and a proud member of the Deutsches Haus. Scott generously volunteered and donated to many charitable organizations and was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever needed. Hot or cold, rain or shine, he loved spending time playing volleyball at his second home, Coconut Beach.
More than anything, Scott will be remembered for the immense love he had for his family, the lifelong friendships he cultivated, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness, laughter, and service. Although he will be deeply missed, Scott’s legacy will live on through the many stories, cherished memories, and special moments shared by all who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at Williams Blvd Baptist Church, 3000 Williams Blvd, Kenner, Louisiana on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at 5:00 PM. Visitation with the family will begin at 3:00 PM. Interment will be private at a later date.
