Roy Joseph Hebert, Jr., known to many as "Uncle Roy", was born on December 12, 1951, in Abbeville, Louisiana, and passed away on April 17, 2026, in Lafayette, Louisiana after a short battle with liver cancer, leaving behind a life that was as funny and adventurous as he was.
A graduate of Abbeville High School, Class of 1970. He joined the U.S. Navy and sailed aboard the USS Enterprise, as a Supplies Officer. He worked at Shell Oil, where he served as a Field Operator.
Roy lived his life with the kind of charm that made people feel like they had known him forever, even if they had just met him five minutes earlier. He had a gift for turning ordinary moments into stories worth retelling. He was the kind of man who made a bar stool feel like a front-row seat to a comedy show and made everyday conversation feel like the best part of the day.
He enjoyed hiking in the mountains of Colorado, where he could take in the scenery. He also loved spending time with his many, many friends in the Lafayette bar scene, where he was known for the energy he brought with him. He said that of those things he accomplished in his life; his children and grandchildren were what he was proudest of.
Roy is survived by his daughter, Nicole Hebert (Cassandra Hebert); his son, Clint Hebert (Karin Marie Hebert); his grandchildren, Oliver, Cecelia, and Spencer Hebert; his brothers, Royce Hebert and Philip Hebert; and his sisters, Lisa Oliver and Charlene Jones. He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Guidry Hebert; his father, Roy Joseph Hebert Sr.; and his brothers, Jerry Hebert and Paul Keith Hebert.
Special thanks to Hospice of Acadiana who made his last week’s more comfortable.
Roy will be remembered with love and more than a few smiles, which is exactly how he would have wanted it.
