Dick was born December 18, 1933 in Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania to Richard Edgar Woolbert and Mary Davies. He attended Colgate University where he received a B.A. degree in Psychology. While at Colgate, Dick served as President and Treasurer of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. He was also a member of the Colgate football team. In 1955, he married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Sally Hess. They spent the next 63 years together until her passing.
After graduating from Colgate University in 1955, Dick joined Babcock and Wilcox in Barberton, Ohio as an employment interviewer. Later, he became a Corporate Director of Employee Relations moving him to New York City, where he was then promoted to Vice President of Employee Relations. When Babcock and Wilcox was acquired by McDermott, he moved to New Orleans, LA. where he eventually became Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer. He was also named to the Boards of Directors for McDermott International Inc. and J. Ray Mcdermott, S.A.
Dick and Sally lived in several towns throughout their lives and were very active within church communities: Central Presbyterian Church of Massillon, Ohio; Greens Farms Congregational Church of Westport, CT; Lakeview Presbyterian Church of New Orleans, LA and First United Methodist Church of Chatham, MA. Dick and Sally enjoyed traveling around the world with both McDermott executives and friends. They also loved their summer months in Chatham where they enjoyed boating, golfing and entertaining family and friends.
Dick will be remembered as an incredibly smart, caring, honest and generous man. He was the best dad, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all that knew him.
Dick is survived by his children; Christine Negrotto (Jimy), Richard Woolbert III (Lisa), Carrie Woolbert, and Polly Linton (Donald); grandchildren, Colleen Dupépé (Derek), Richard Woolbert IV, Megan Van Schaayk (Ben), Carrie Linton, Nicholas Linton and Jessica Linton; and great-grandchildren, Payton Dupépé, Dylan Dupépé, Porter Dupépé and his brother Gordon Woolbert (Betsy). He was preceded in death by his sister Margie Rohr and his parents.
A Celebration of Dick's Life will be held this summer in Chatham, MA.
