Raymond Samson Dore’ passed away peacefully in the presence of his family in Lafayette, Louisiana, on Monday, May 5, 2025. His children survive him, Andre’ Thomas Dore’ and his wife Jana, of Scott, Louisiana, Raymond Samson Dore’ II (Sam) of Lafayette, Louisiana, and Amy Dore’ Cortez and her husband Lane, of Lafayette, Louisiana, his three beloved grandchildren, Jesse Joseph Dore’ of California, Bradley Prince Dore’ of Lafayette, Louisiana, and Alexis Jeanne Cortez of Metairie, Louisiana, one great-grandson Everette Raymond Dore’ and his sisters Alys Dore’ of Houston, Texas and Suzanne Guerra and her husband Richard, of Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Eunice Dore’, and his brother, Lloyd Dore Jr.
Raymond was born to Lloyd and Eunice Dore’ on October 29, 1929. History named this day “Black Tuesday,” known as the day of the historic Stock Market crash of 1929 and the beginning of the Great Depression. Raymond often quipped that if the President of the United States and the investors in stocks on Wall Street had been as fortunate as his family and friends to have known him, the depression wouldn’t have been that bad. He attended Abbeville High, and after graduation, Raymond enlisted in the US Army, where he served as a member of the Military Police. Upon receiving his Honorable Discharge, he returned to Acadiana and attended and graduated from Southwestern Louisiana, earning his degree in English. He became part of the working world by accepting a job with the U S Gypsum Company. In 1957, he met his beloved “Lovey,” and the two married on May 10,1958. Raymond transitioned from the U S Gypsum Company, became a home builder, and eventually ended his working years as the owner of Water Wells Incorporated.
Raymond was first and foremost a loving and devoted husband to Merrill for over 65 years. When she became too ill to remain living in their home, he selflessly transitioned to Maison De Lafayette to be by her side in her time of need. There, he remained by her side until her passing in 2023. He was an amazingly loving father and grandfather who relished his home life, always cherishing family functions and looking forward to cocktail hour when he could spend time just visiting and catching up with family and friends. Raymond will be remembered for his tremendous singing voice, sweet and pure words of wisdom, and his peaceful and loving demeanor. Raymond’s living motto was “I did it my way,” and what a life he lived!!
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Jun 21, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Jules Catholic Church in Lafayette. The family requests that visitation be observed at the church from noon until the time of the service.
