With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the passing of Patrick J. Elwick, who peacefully departed this life on Thursday, November 5, 2026 at the age of 85 after a courageous journey with Alzheimer's disease.
Born on August 5, 1941 in London, England, Pat lived a life defined by love, laughter, faith, hard work, and an unwavering devotion to his family. To know him was to know warmth, humor, and kindness. He never met a stranger and had a gift for making people feel welcome, valued, and loved.
Above all else, Pat was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His family was the center of his world, and some of their most treasured memories are of his laughter, stories, and the simple joy he found in being together.
Alzheimer's may have changed many things over the years, but it never stole the essence of who he was. Even in the final chapters of his life, his spirit continued to shine. He could often be found telling terribly corny jokes, singing his favorite songs, happily playing his guitar, or bringing smiles to those around him. Those moments serve as a beautiful reminder that while memories may fade, love endures.
Throughout his life, Pat taught those around him the importance of perseverance, compassion, and finding joy in every season of life. Don't sweat the small stuff, kid! His legacy lives on in the values he instilled, the lives he touched, and the family he cherished so deeply.
He is survived by his beautiful Cajun Princess of 47 years, Maureen; his children - Abigail (Christian), Candace, and Chelsea (Reggie); his grandson - Leiton, and numerous extended family members and friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
While our hearts ache in his absence, we find comfort in knowing he is finally at peace and free from the burdens of disease.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date because we all know that Pat loved a great party!
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Pat's name to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice that supports individuals and families affected by Alzheimer's disease.
Though he may no longer walk beside us, the songs he sang, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave will remain with us always.
We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the incredible teams at Egan Home Care, Hospice Specialists of Louisiana, and Ochsner Health, especially Dr. Baker. Your unwavering guidance, compassion, and support throughout this journey brought comfort, dignity, and peace during one of the most difficult times in our lives. Your kindness and dedication will never be forgotten, and our family is forever grateful for the care you provided.
