Matthew “Matty Matt” John Maher Sr. was called home on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at 4:20p.m., surrounded by his loved ones, at the age of 40. He was born in New Orleans, LA on January 27, 1978. He is survived by his mother, Elaine Gaspard Maher, who will always be the woman who is #1 in her caboose’s heart. His children Little Matt, Adisson, and Aubree, will remember the champ, the hero, the man who would walk through fire to have them by his side. Now, he will always be by theirs. His brothers and sisters, Michelle, Michael Jr. (Rose), Marlene, Mitchell Sr. (Donielle), Mark Sr. (Tracey), Melanie (Rhett), and Monica (Jerry) will hold on to the good times, endless conversations, and countless memories to keep him alive for his children. His Godchildren Montanna, Sophia, Sal III, and James have an extra guardian angel, because Parran is always watching. His nieces and nephews, Carlos Jr., Mikey, Chris, Angie, Kristina, Kristian, Kandice, Shannon, Jennifer, Lil Sal, Lil Jimmy, Lil Mitch, Mason, Lil Mark, Donavan, Megan, Joelle and Christyn, and great nieces and nephews, Rowan, Rylee, Lil Chris, Greg, Gabe, Kiersten, Jordan, Julian, Jace, Braelyn, and Josh Jr. will remember the jokes, the dancing and the special bond that Uncle Matt has with each of them. He is joining his father, Michael Maher Sr., and his sister Melinda Maher DuRousseau (Sal), who have been planning his “Welcome Home” party, and will forever be dancing in the clouds. He is also survived by many other relatives and very close friends who will always be his family. Matt, although your trip here was short, you have accomplished more than most with double your time. You have managed to leave a legacy to your children, while always finding a way to help anyone else in need. Any challenge you ever had had to face, you faced head on and smoked, “Smoke Dawg”. The love and loyalty that you have for the people close to you is second to none. Our hearts and lives will never be the same. But we will carry on because “Matty Matt said so!” Fly high our baby! Until we meet again! Family and friends are asked to attend a Farewell Party in his honor on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at the Elk’s Lodge at 2215 Cleary Ave., Metairie LA 70001 from 12:00 – 4:00p.m.
