Marilyn Downs Seward

Marilyn Downs Seward, 90, of Metairie, LA, passed away on September 28, 2023. She was born Marilyn Scariano on June 13, 1933, in New Orleans, LA. Marilyn had a fulfilling life filled with family, love, and cherished memories.

Marilyn had a zest for life. She enjoyed traveling to various destinations and exploring new cultures. Marilyn was also an avid tennis player. Additionally, she found joy in playing bridge and socializing with her extensive network of family and friends.

Marilyn is survived by her loving children, Donna Burns Fritscher (Mike) and Tim Burns (Karen), her cherished grandchildren, Justin Fritscher (Mick), Lynne Fritscher Link (Chris), Shelby Fritscher, and Vance Burns, her cherished great-grandchildren, Josie Link, Patrick Link, Agnes Link and Fritz Link, as well as her numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Camille Scariano, her sister, Emily Scariano Beard, her former husband, Donald Burns, who was the father of her children, as well as her husband’s Dell Downs and Thomas Seward, and her grandson, Joseph Fritscher.

Marilyn received her education at Sacred Heart High School and went on to pursue higher education at Dominican College. She enjoyed careers in both teaching and real estate.

A memorial service in honor of Marilyn’s life will be held on October 13, 2023 at St. Angela Merici Roman Catholic Church, located at 835 Melody Drive, Metairie, LA 70002. Visitation will take place from 10 am until 12 noon, followed by a memorial mass at noon. After the memorial mass, burial services will be held at All Saints Mausoleum, located at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124.

Her family is especially grateful for the exceptional care and devotion to Marilyn by Myrna Shiloh and Wonona Carbo.

Marilyn Downs Seward will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her vibrant spirit and kind heart will be remembered. May she rest in eternal peace.
