Lynne Mary (North) Spencer, 93, beloved wife and mother, passed quietly from this life on April 27, 2018. She was born March 8, 1925, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Chester H. (Tub) and Raymary Ruark North. She graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1943 as Valedictorian of her class, and attended the University of Colorado - Boulder where she studied Medical Technology and was a valued member of the Alpha Phi sorority. On August 27, 1955, she married the love of her life, Winston C. (Bill) Spencer at Calvary Episcopal Church in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Together, they raised 4 beautiful children: Peggy (Fred) Wilson, Robert (Kathy) Edwards, John (Karen) Spencer, and Lynnette (Phil) Phucas. They were also blessed with 7 adored grandchildren: Justin Chapman; Evan, Andrew, Daniel, Matthew, Stephen and Mary Spencer; and 1 great-granddaughter, Orrin Chapman. Although she worked many jobs throughout her life, Lynne's biggest joy was being a stay-at-home mom who took great pride in her children's and grandchildren's accomplishments. She instilled in each child a solid foundation of love, family unity, hard work, and strong values. Because Bill's profession as an aeronautical design engineer required many relocations around the country, Lynne learned to love the changes by immersing herself and her children in the local cultures and traditions everywhere they went -- most especially learning to cook and serve traditional foods in each area. She was a woman of many talents among which was always being open to learning/trying new things, painting, golf, sewing, horseback riding and horse breeding, and gardening. She particularly loved the outdoors, and was an enthusiastic traveler and camper. She was also a lifelong member of P.E.O. International, a philanthropic organization for women which seeks to motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations through scholarships, grants, awards, loans and stewardship. She was recently honored as a 70 year member. Her love, interest in, and openness to so many diverse things left an indelible mark on all her children and grandchildren who have developed an open-minded joy for life and how to live it. She has given all her family and friends a lifetime if memories, lessons, encouragement, and love. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Bill Spencer; her parents, Tub and Raymary North; and her brother, Chester H. (Buddy) North, who passed away when she was only 6 years old and whose presence was forever missed. A brief memorial service will be held at First Christian Church of Slidell on Friday May 11, 2015 at 11:00 AM Donations to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund are requested in lieu of flowers. A family gathering will take place at a later date. A special thank you to the St. Joseph's Hospice, for their kind care and consideration during her final illness. Care and arrangements are entrusted to the Neptune Society of New Orleans.
