Louis John Sanson passed away 12/03/2016 after a short illness related to his battle with Parkinson’s disease. Lou spent his childhood in Trinidad and as a teenager, relocated with his family to Catskill, NY. After High School, he joined the US Coast Guard serving several years on ships in and around New York Harbor and the Hudson River Valley. It was there that he developed his lifelong love of the sea and all things Maritime, especially Sailing. As an adult Lou’s Nautical expertise served him well, with a successful 30+ year career as a commercial Marine Insurance Agent/Underwriter. He worked for Fireman’s Fund (NYC), Marsh & McLennan (VA Bch, VA) and at times as a freelance consultant. After retirement, Lou taught Basic Seamanship and Lifeboatman training courses for Martin International in LaPlace, LA. There was nothing Lou enjoyed more than a Sailboat. He could fix up an old boat or build one from scratch, and was always looking for people who wanted to go for a sail. He was also well known as an excellent Spanish/Classical Guitar Player, his playing style emulating that of his idol Andres Segovia. Lou is survived by his wife Stella, sons Bill & Jim, stepsons Paul & Daren, sisters Lonnie & Cecile, grandchildren Maria, Derek, Daniel, Chris and Brian, great grandchildren Mackenzie, Julius, Natalia, and Callie, and predeceased by son Rob & brothers Henry & Peter. A Memorial Service will be held at Saint Augustines Episcopal Church, 3412 Haring Rd., Metairie, LA 70006 on Saturday, 12/17/2016 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM.
