Louis was born on 10/21/1926 in Ville Platte, LA where he grew up with one older and two younger brothers. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated from Ville Platte High School in May of 1944. Soon after, he joined the US Navy at the young age of 17 following many attempts at coaxing his Dad into signing the recruiters forms. He proudly served during WWII in the Pacific theater. He was also one of the First Occupational Forces to enter Sasebo, Japan after their surrender.
Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, he married his sweetheart Geneva Roberie and began his career as a self-employed pipeline welder and fabricator. His career brought him to multiple areas and on the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Most of his work was for Shell Oil Company. He was actively involved in St. Bridget Catholic Church performing remodeling and new construction late into the night after returning home from his daily work routine. He loved squirrel hunting and fishing.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Jules and Elizabeth (Soileau) Brignac, his beloved wife, Geneva (Roberie) Brignac, his brother Wade Brignac, and his daughter Jennifer Brignac. He is survived by his brothers, Kearnie and Norman Brignac, daughter Sandra B. Durdin (Dan), his son Mitch Brignac (Darlene), ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and three great-great granddaughters.
He was a perfectionist in all that he did. If his work wasn’t absolutely perfect, he would stop and start all over from the beginning. He was always there to help his family and anyone else in need with his time and multiple skills.
The family would like to thank Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, Thibodaux Regional Home Health, STAT Home health, and the staff at Chateau Terrebonne during his brief stay there. The care and compassion given by all involved in his last year and a half was remarkable.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of his life on March 16, 2024 at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 100 LA-311, Schriever, LA 70395. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM with the Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow at the church cemetery.
