If there is a Heaven, Leverett (PAPA) Marcotte is on his way there to make sure it’s built right. Leverett, 79, died late Monday, 6/24/2019, evening at Slidell Memorial Hospital. He shared 5 biological and 7 step children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by 1 brother, 4 sisters, and has 1 deceased brother.
Family and friends throughout the day are remembering him as “a great kind of a man”, a champion of the underdog and who was as heartful as the day was long. He was a proud service man of the U.S Navy.
Leverett was a carpenter, a football and baseball coach for kids, and he loved bowling and NFL Football. He enjoyed his grandchildren, always ready with a smile and a hug and always was distributing treats.
He was just an absolutely amazing guy. It didn’t matter who you were, how far up or down the chain you were, everybody that knew him respected the hell out of him.
He will be missed by those of us who knew him well and love him dearly. They don’t make them like Papa anymore. He was a very tough, very hardworking and very smart at what he did.
Papa (Leverett) was rough around the edges, but filled with compassion.
His late in life passion, he reached out to help people who were returning from jail to reorient them back in the community by providing transportation on a daily basis. The two things he hated most were dishonesty and unfairness.
May “Papa” rest in peace…He is loved and will be missed.
