Larry Peter Funck, 69, passed away Monday August 20, 2018 at the Chateau Living Center in Kenner, Louisiana. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on December 11, 1948 to Frank Eugene Funck and Margie Crawford Funck, who preceded him in death.
Larry (Lovingly known as Pete, Uncle Pete, and Captain Larry) was a long-time resident of the Marjorie Walters School. He was a boy scout as a child and an avid bowler as an adult, bowling every Saturday morning for many years. One of his proudest moments was bowling 11 strikes in a row, and he participated in the Special Olympics of Louisiana.
He loved to sing and sometimes impersonate his favorite celebrities such as The Three Stooges, Superman, Gene Autry, John Wayne, and his all-time favorite, “the King,” Elvis Presley. He could often be heard singing “Hound Dog” or “Blue Christmas” or playing his guitar.
His favorite day of the year was his birthday, December 11th, which he looked forward to all year long. One of his favorite pastimes was memorizing everyone’s birthday and even the day of the week it would fall on that year.
Larry was a friend to all, greeting people with smiles, hugs and stories, and he loved to show off his ID. He loved badges and uniforms, credit cards and 5-dollar bills. He was full of joy just to sit down with a hot cup of coffee. He enjoyed drawing still-life pictures and writing birthday cards or special notes to people in his life. He loved his parents and his family.
He is survived by his siblings, Peggy Funck (Robert) Allen, Judy Funck (Craig) Taffaro, Cathy Funck Longworth, Frank (Katie) Funck, Cindy Funck (Ronnie) Platt; nieces and nephews, Rebecca Allen, Robbie (Julie) Allen, Kristy Allen (Brian) Jeansonne, John Paul (Stevie) Allen, David (Tracey) Longworth, Candy Longworth (Ryan Cavalier), Cassy Longworth (Daniel) Cannon, Ashley Funck (Johnathen) Goley, Frankie Lynn Funck, and Katie Lynn Funck; great nieces and nephews; aunts, Marian Funck (Rudolph) Fascio and Lou Funck (Sidney) Elkins; cousins; and friends.
His Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, August 23rd from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Service begins promptly at 1:30) at the American Legion, Jefferson Post 267, 3001 River Road at Causeway Blvd in Jefferson, LA.
