Joseph “Joe” Martin Vaughn passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at the age of 59, in Jefferson, LA. A resident of Metairie, LA, Joe was originally from Summerfield, FL. Joe’s greatest love, aside from his children, was sharing his love of dancing with the world. His favorite moment while teaching dance would be when a student or a couple “got it” and suddenly it became more than a lesson – they were dancing! Joe was a member of Toastmasters, USA Dance (Gumbo Chapter), and Jefferson Parish and Kenner Chamber of Commerce. He was an instructor of Latin, Jazz, and Ballroom Dancing for over 25 years. Joe taught in the Jefferson Parish 5th grade school dance program, and in his spare time would be an extra for movies and televisions shows filmed in New Orleans. Joe is survived by his former spouse of 20 years, Jennifer Beasley, his daughters, Nycole Vaughn, Jennifer Mekelburg, and Christina Mekelburg, his son, Christopher Mekelburg, his grandchildren, Destiny Vaughn, Kendree Smith, Dorian Dean, Joshua Dean, David Mekelburg, Brayden Mekelburg, Skylar Dean, and Levi Howard, his mother and step-father, Marian and Arthur White, his sisters, Linda Feller (Ernie), Alison Lynch (Mike), and Jennifer Johnson (Don), his brothers, Rick Brooks (Jolene), Lee White (Angela), and Eric White, and his brother-in-law, Paul Ventresca. He is also survived by many other loving relatives and friends. Joe is predeceased by his father, Cecil Vaughn, his brother, Gary Vaughn, his sister, Paula Ventresca, and his grandmother, Pauline Alexander. A Celebration of Joe’s Life will be held at Lakeview Presbyterian Church, 5914 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124 on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 5:00 PM. To honor Joe’s love of dancing, a dance will be held at the church following his service.
