John "Dewey" Joseph Shuh Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 87. He was born on July 21, 1937, in New Orleans and resided in Metairie.
John was in the first graduating class of East Jefferson High School, served in the army, and worked in the Reproduction Department at Shell Oil Company until his retirement. He was a family man who devoted his whole life to his wife, children, grandchildren, and his great grandchildren. He was always ready for the next adventure or family activity. He treasured the friends he made at Shell and loved going fishing at the camp. John was a devoted parishioner of St. Christopher the Martyr Catholic Church and had many friends there.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Joyce Arnold Shuh, and their three daughters, Sherri Eck (David), Alyce Meyers (John), and Robyn Guttuso (the late Roy). Beloved “Dewey” to Bayley Hubble (Ian), Jeremy Batson (Melinda), David Eck Jr. and Casen Guttuso. He also leaves a lasting legacy to his great grandchildren, Emma Batson, Jeremy Batson Jr., Riley Hubble and Remi Grace Hubble. Dewey also had a special place in the hearts of Jamie, Greg, Olivia, and Avery Muller, Stacy Meyers, and John and Libby Meyers. He is preceded in death by his parents Ita O’Rourke Shuh and John Shuh Sr. and his brother Earl Shuh.
The Funeral Mass has been postponed and will be held at a later date due to an unexpected family emergency.
In lieu of flowers, Masses are preferred or donations may be made in his memory to the St. Christopher the Martyr Capital Campaign.
