Born on June 14, 1939, in the Bronx, NY, Janet was a wonderful and loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was educated by the Dominican sisters at St. Brendan Elementary School in the Bronx and attended St. Nicholas of Tolentine High School and Hunter College, both in the Bronx as well.
Janet lived in several places around the world including New York, Indonesia and Australia before settling in New Orleans. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Dominic Church in New Orleans and a longtime supporter of the Southern Dominican Province. Her deep faith, informed by her Dominican education, played an important role in her life, and inspired her to volunteer in her various communities for over half a century.
While living in Bedford, NY, Janet served as a Eucharistic Minister at her parish, St. Patrick’s Church, and was also a CCD teacher for the parish. She also volunteered at a local home for people suffering from metal health issues. After moving to New Orleans, Janet volunteered at a local hospital assisting families during their loved ones’ surgery or treatments, and sat with hospice care patients, providing comfort in their last days. Janet was a volunteer at Covenant House and served on its New Orleans Advisory Board for many years. She was a Dame with the Knights of Malta and a Dame Grand Cross with the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.
