James “JC” Charles Miller Jr., a man who never met a stranger and could spark a conversation in any room he walked into, passed away on May 22, 2026, at the age of 79. Born May 16, 1947, he lived a life defined by humor, connection, service, and a deep love for his family. He was born May 16, 1947, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and spent his early years in Chalmette before making his home in Slidell, where he lived most recently.
JC proudly served in the United States Air Force as part of the 555 RED HORSE Combat Engineers, including a tour in Vietnam in 1969. His commitment to his fellow veterans continued throughout his life. He was a member of DAV Chapter #36 (Arabi, LA), VFW Post 5735 (Slidell, LA), American Legion Post 374 (Slidell, LA), and NVA Chapter 697 (Slidell, LA). He was also a proud member of IBEW Local 130, carrying the work ethic and camaraderie of the trade with him long after retirement.
What people will remember most about JC wasn’t just his service - it was his spirit. He had a gift for making people laugh, often with a perfectly timed joke or a mischievous grin that let you know he was about to say something funny. He loved talking to people - cashiers, neighbors, strangers in line - and he had a way of making everyone feel like an old friend. JC enjoyed trips to the casino, where he found joy in the lights, the sounds, and the simple fun of being out in the world. He also had a deep love for horse racing — studying the racing forms, picking his horses, and placing his bets. Whether his horse came in or not, the thrill of the race and the atmosphere of the track were always a good time.
Above all, JC loved his family. He is survived by his wife, Angelia Miller; his sons Jamie Miller and Brandon Miller; his daughter Kellie Miller; his brother Jerry Miller; his grandchildren Cohen and Bellamy Miller; his great nephew Kodi Castillion; and many beloved nieces and nephews, who brought him endless pride and happiness. He was preceded in death by his parents, James C. Miller Sr. and Dorothy "Buras" Miller. His laughter, his stories, and the warmth he carried into every gathering will be deeply missed.
JC leaves behind a legacy of service, humor, and connection - the kind of legacy built not from grand gestures, but from thousands of small moments where he made someone’s day a little lighter.
