Henry Gassner Schroeder, 86, passed away on April 27, 2026. He lived in Lacombe, Louisiana. Born on August 1, 1939, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Henry lived a life marked by innovation, exploits, and an unwavering drive to pursue his passions.
A self-described one-hit wonder, Henry co-wrote “We Will All Remember (Graduation Day)” and recorded it in 1959 at Cosimo Matassa's J&M Recording Studio. A friend of theirs, Mac Rebennack (who later became Dr. John), popped by the studio to play piano for the B-side instrumental “Noise.” Graduation Day can still be heard every May on WTIX radio.
After a long career as a professional musician (who claimed he started playing at age 14 on Bourbon Street), he pivoted to a career as a microfiche machine designer and repairman. He later channeled his entrepreneurial spirit into founding several companies under Transtec, Inc. Even after retiring, Henry’s energy and enthusiasm never waned. His son Scott fondly referred to him as "the busiest retired guy I know."
Henry lived his favorite motto, “the only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys.” He was a private pilot who found joy in the skies in his treasured orange Cessna 175, The Pumpkin. His love for boats, airplanes, motorcycles, and quirky things that caught his eye reflected his passion for adventure and mechanical precision.
Later in life he shared his love of Doo Wop music as a special event deejay, Dr. Doo Wop, D.J., sharing stories and trivia between songs.
Henry was preceded in death by his beloved wife Barbara Schroeder, his parents John and Ida Schroeder, and his brother John A. Schroeder II. He is survived by his daughter Tara Schroeder and son Scott Schroeder (April).
