Henry Horace Gingles

On Monday, May 2, 2016, Henry Horace Gingles Jr. passed away peacefully at his home in the presence of his wife, Janet Priest Gingles, and two children, Marcy Gingles and Dennis Gingles. Mr. Gingles, who was known as Hank, was ninety years old and a resident of New Orleans since 1970. Hank was born August 25, 1925 to the late Henry Horace Gingles and Mary Blee Gingles. Raised in Jerseytown, Pennsylvania, Hank’s parents owned Jerseytown General Store and spent much of their time at their home on Beaver Lake. This is where Hank met the love of his life and wife of 65 years, Janet. As residents of Muncy and Hughesville, Pennsylvania, Danbury, Connecticut, and New Orleans, Louisiana, Hank and Janet had many, many close friends and neighbors who became extended family members. Hank and Janet also loved to travel extensively on vacation and to visit their two children. They traveled to Europe and California to visit their daughter, Marcy, and to Maine and upstate New York, visiting their son, Dennis, daughter-in-law, Denise Fritz Gingles, and granddaughter, Diana Gingles, now of Providence, Rhode Island. Hank attended Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania and the University of California–Berkeley. He was an active member of the Sigma Chi fraternity at both universities. Taking a position with Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation – Wire Rope Division of Muncy soon after his marriage to Janet, Hank worked in sales most of his career and later became Regional Sales Manager for the company in New Orleans. Hank was a member of Washington Lodge #265 F&AM and the Caldwell Consistory both of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. He was also a past president of the Muncy Jaycees. An avid hunter, outdoorsman, reader, and artist, Hank most enjoyed spending time talking with his family, friends, and neighbors. He loved to entertain and will be remembered for his special sense of humor and his ability to tell a great story. The family would like to thank all of the caregivers at Canon Hospice of New Orleans who helped to keep him comfortable at home over the last eight months. The family would like to invite friends and neighbors to a small gathering to be held at The Clubhouse Entertainment Center of Citrus Creek Apartments, 5301 Citrus Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70123 on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at 7 PM. A graveside service is being planned for a later date in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to a charity of personal choice, in Hank’s honor.
