Glenda Sue Carter DeLaune

June 20, 1948 – July 30, 2025
Obituary of Glenda Sue Carter DeLaune
Glenda Sue Carter DeLaune passed away on July 30, 2025, at Ochsner Medical Center in Jefferson, LA at the age of 77 years old. She was a native of Bastrop, LA and a resident of Mandeville, LA.

Beloved wife of Elton "Jay" DeLaune, Jr for 44 years, mother of Jennifer Bergeron Cardinal (Ryan), Katie DeLaune Segrave (Jacob) and Sarabeth DeLaune Accardo (Jay), daughter of the late Glynn and Ruby Odom Carter, sister of Donna Jean Motoishi and Debra Kay Hopkins. Sue is also survived by her five grandchildren: Camille Cardinal, Caroline Cardinal, Jillian Accardo, Logan Segrave, and Wyatt Accardo. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her greatest joys in life came from her family, and once she retired from her lifelong career of nursing, she turned her free time into crafting, enjoying music festivals in our area and traveling. After graduating from Bastrop High School, Sue earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from Northwestern State in Natchitoches, LA and then earned a master's degree from Louisiana State University Health Science Center in New Orleans, LA.

Sue was a renown nurse educator across Louisiana and nationally, receiving various awards, including being recognized as a Great 100 Nurse in Louisiana. Across the span of her 40+ year career, she taught students at all levels of nursing education in the New Orleans/Northshore, Monroe and Lafayette areas: Diploma, AD, BSN. Upon her retirement, she was teaching at LSUHS nursing program. She co-authored a Foundations of Nursing textbook that was used across the nation by nursing students entering the profession. In addition to her teaching positions, she was a frequent presenter at state and national nursing conferences and continuing education programs through S DeLaune Consulting, LLC.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Ochsner Hospital, specifically the Surgical Intensive Care Unit on the 16th floor of the West Tower where she spent her last few months. We are eternally grateful for the exceptional care provided by the staff to Sue and her family.

A memorial service will be held Monday, August 11, 2025 at 11 am at The Chapel of First Baptist Church Covington, 16054 Murphy Road, Covington, LA 70433. Visitation will start at 10 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to: Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, PO Box 4196, Monroe, LA 71211. www.lbch.org
