

Fred was born in New Orleans, LA on April 9, 1927, where he spent his childhood. He was a proud World War II veteran, having served in the United States Army. He was a LSU graduate of 1951 with a B.S. in commerce. He was a regional sales manager for Glidden paints and wall coverings for 33 years. He was also active in the Lutheran Church.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Edward L. Rietschel and Edna W. Rietschel; his brothers, Louis, Edward, and Leonard Rietschel; and his first wife, Estelle Fleckinger Rietschel of New Orleans, LA.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Varisco of Lafayette, LA; his children, Dr. Robert L. Rietschel of Tucson, AZ, Susan R. Little (Jimmy) of Medina, OH; his step-children, Jamie and Christopher Varisco; his grandchildren, Eric and Penny Rietschel; his step-grandchildren, Mitchel and Mason Varisco; and his great-grandchildren, Haley and Ava Rietschel.
Fred was a family man; he was so proud of everything his family had achieved over the years. He was a loving, kind, and generous husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who will be greatly missed.
Fred was an avid LSU and New Orleans Saints football fan, and he never missed watching a game. He also loved playing golf in his younger days.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Audubon Hospice Lafayette for the care and compassion they showed Fred in his final days.
