Faye Marie Alvarez

January 29, 1932 – July 18, 2021

Faye Marie Lowrie Alvarez, born January 29, 1932, died peacefully at her home surrounded by beloved members of her family on July 18, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Joseph Alvarez, her mother Alice Benit Lowrie and her brother Earl C. Lowrie, Jr. She is survived by her four children and their spouses - Ronald (Denise) Alvarez, Donna (Bruce) Laborde, Rene (Jane) Alvarez, and Darlene (Robert) Daigrepont. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren – Melanie (Rus) Beasley, Mitchell (Suzanne) Alvarez, Meredith (John) Pickering, Brandon (Jessica) Laborde, Dana Laborde, Mark (Martha) Alvarez, Nathan Alvarez, James Alvarez, Kelsey Daigrepont, Tyler (Kalie) Daigrepont, Claire Daigrepont, and Evan Daigrepont. She is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren – Catherine Beasley, Garnett Beasley, Henry Beasley, Annie Alvarez, Walker Alvarez, and John Milton Pickering.

Faye, a lifelong resident of New Orleans and Metairie, was a 1948 graduate of Sacred Heart High School. She and her husband Ralph were founding members of St. Benilde Catholic Church, where in her later years she remained an active member of the Altar Society and Cher Amis. She was blessed to have many friends throughout her life with whom she enjoyed many social functions. The family remains grateful for these friends, for her many caregivers, and for the leadership of St. Benilde Catholic Church who provided for her physical, mental, and spiritual needs over the waning few months of her life.

Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of her life which will be held at St. Benilde Catholic Church, 1901 Division St., Metairie, LA 70001, on July 31, 2021 with visitation starting at 11 am and a Funeral Mass commencing at 1 pm. Inurnment will follow immediately after Mass at Lake Lawn Cemetery in New Orleans, LA. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Catholic Community Foundation for the benefit of the Ralph J. and Faye M. Alvarez Endowment which supports St. Benilde Elementary School, 1000 Howard Avenue, Suite 800, New Orleans, LA 70113, or directly to St. Benilde Catholic Church.
