He was born and raised in the New Orleans area and was a proud member of Explorer Post 296. He was a skilled volleyball player and played on many leagues throughout the city. He loved rollerblading in City Park and kayaking in Bayou St. John. As a special education educator, one of his greatest accomplishments was building a miniature golf course that was accessible to students who were confined to wheelchairs.
He is survived by his children Kasey Cummings (Larame), Shelby Christiana, (Anthony) and his three beautiful grandchildren, Poppy Cole, AnnaBelle Frances and Avery Jo. He was preceded in death by his parents David and Shirley Sollenberger, and his brother, Kurt Sollenberger.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Passages Hospice, especially Anthony and Naomi for their kindness and support shown to Erich and his family in his final days.
The family requests that donations be made in his honor to NAMI New Orleans, an organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by mental illness. Donations can be made at www.namisela.org.
