Elton Joseph DeLaune Jr.

Beloved father of Jennifer Bergeron Cardinal (Ryan), Katie DeLaune Segrave (Jacob) and Sarabeth DeLaune Accardo (Jay); brother to Eric DeLaune (Steven), Sue Amor and Henry DeLaune (Roxane). Also survived by his “Fab Five” grandchildren: Camille Cardinal, Caroline Cardinal, Jillian Accardo, Logan Segrave and Wyatt Accardo. Loved dearly by his sister-in-law, Kay Carter Hopkins, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was an honorary “Poppy” to Dean, Maverick, and Finan LeBlanc, and will be missed terribly by his furry, four-legged sidekick Romeaux.

Jay was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Glenda Sue DeLaune, parents Elton and Gladys DeLaune, and sister Valla DeLaune.

After retiring as a pipe fitter from Avondale Shipyards of 35 years, he enjoyed cooking for his family, attending Saints football games, fishing and hunting (including shooting the breeze), and being “Poppy” to his grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Jay’s hospice nurse Sarah Beth Seal and caregivers Owinder Graves and Tracy Banks for the phenomenal care provided to him.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial service which will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026 at 11 am at The Chapel of First Baptist Church Covington, 16054 Murphy Road, Covington, LA 70433. Visitation will start at 10 am.
