Edward "Ted" Johnson Freed, 52, a resident of River Ridge, Louisiana, passed away peacefully, in the presence of his loved ones, on January 7, 2025. A devoted husband, father, friend, and professional, Ted's warmth and generosity touched all who knew him.
Ted is preceded in death by his father, John Freed; stepson, Jonathan Rodrigue; and his grandparents. He is survived by his beloved wife, Tammy Mineo Freed; stepdaughter, Ashley Zimmermann; stepson, Ryan Zimmermann; mother, Susan Freed; sister, Susannah Freed; brother, Chris Neimeck; and many cousins.
Born in Erie, Pennsylvania, Ted graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and Technology. He later made his way to New Orleans, where he pursued further education, attending Tulane Continuing Education Studies and earning his MBA in Finance from the University of New Orleans in 2009. In 2003, Ted became a licensed professional engineer, a milestone that marked the beginning of a long and respected career in engineering. He embraced New Orleans' vibrant culture, becoming an avid supporter of the New Orleans Saints and a passionate participant in Mardi Gras festivities. Ted was also known for his competitive nature in local crawfish cook-offs. An avid sports fan, Ted had a particular passion for beach volleyball, competing for many years in local tournaments. He also found great joy in the camaraderie of fantasy football leagues, where his knowledge of the game and competitive edge made him a force to be reckoned with. Outside of sports, Ted's heart belonged to his beloved dogs, who were often by his side as he embraced life to the fullest. His kindness, humor, and loyalty created lasting bonds with friends, coworkers, and family alike.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation and Mass in his memory on Friday, January 24, 2025, at St. Angela Merici Church, 835 Melody Drive, Metairie, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a Mass at 1 p.m. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, 5190 Canal Boulevard, New Orleans, Louisiana.
