Douglas Edward Weber, 69, passed away on May 2nd, 2016 in the arms of his partner, Kate Prechter, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Doug, AKA “Pops”, loved and was beloved by his seven grandchildren, Parker, Lanie, Dane, Holly, Mia, Grayson, and Ellie. He is survived by his former wife of over 30 years, Eileen Kuebel Weber, and three step-sons of their marriage, Larry DeMarcay (wife, Lorie), Michael DeMarcay (wife, Tiffany), and David DeMarcay (wife, Melissa). Doug is also survived by his three siblings, Fred Weber (wife, Mary Jane), Ken Weber (wife, Mindy), and Beth Weber Dunham (husband, John). In addition to his large extended family, he was a mentor to numerous young people who came into his life over the years and enjoyed sharing his experiences and wisdom. Doug grew up in New Orleans at the Southern Yacht Club. His uncle, Johnny Weinnig, would place Doug on the dock with instructions to accept the first offer to crew for sailors who were short-handed on the way to their boats. Hence, Doug’s lifelong affair with boats and the sea began. He completed his goal of finishing America’s Great Circle Loop on Saltwind and enjoyed many days and nights on the water at many ports. Doug loved life and grabbed it with both hands. He organized the First Annual Lay Day in Mandeville, and treasured his annual “surprise” birthday party. He also held dear his annual Gasparilla Day barbeque on Harbor Island in Tampa, and had many more adventures and celebrations throughout his life that were both meaningful and honored. Doug spent his life in real estate development in New Orleans, St. Petersburg, and Tampa. He developed several of the first strip centers in Metairie and later moved to Tampa, where he developed several multi-family apartment and senior housing communities in Florida. Please join us in celebrating the life of a loving, beloved, giving, and extraordinary man on Sunday, June 5th, 2016 from 6 PM to 9 PM.
