Douglas "Douggie" Scott Trager

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lona & Howard Trager.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Romano-Trager, brothers Marc Trager and Jeff Trager, step-daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Jeff Carroll, granddaughters Sloan and Jai Carroll, his nieces, nephews and cousins, and sister Randi Hulse.

From a very early age, Douggie set out to create an incredibly unique life for himself. He lived the life he loved, and loved the life he lived. He was many things over a lifetime; a phenomenal athlete, a self taught bass player, a wine expert, possessing a knowledge of all things music, and came to rub elbows with people from every walk of life, famous and infamous alike.

Douggie was one of the most beloved friends or family any of us could ever have, and there was truly nobody cooler than he was, while never really trying to be. He just was.

For the past two decades if you spent any time at the world famous Maple Leaf Bar in New Orleans - you would've met Douggie. You could find him at the door working a shift for George Porter Jr, on the patio grinning while telling funny stories, or maybe you caught him in front of the club excited about a show he just saw. As the Leaf’s long time booking agent, Douggie was committed to helping artists reach their potential, and nothing would excite him more than extending opportunities to musicians.

Douggie lived a fulfilling life, full of music, and love. His impact on the New Orleans music community extends far beyond The Leaf, and many artists would attest that he had a profound influence on their careers. A decades-long champion of New Orleans music, he helped make the Maple Leaf Bar one of the city's most beloved live music venues and a home for generations of musicians. His passion and unwavering support for artists left an indelible mark on New Orleans' musical community.

His love for New Orleans was deep, from helping rebuild the city after Katrina, to coordinating countless benefits for those in need. Douggie was a community hero.

More importantly though, he treated everyone with respect and kindness, and to be in his orbit made you feel like family. For those of us who were lucky enough to be among his closest friends and family, it has never been nor will it ever be taken for granted just how special it was to be counted among his inner circle. We are all so much better for having him be a part of our lives.

He will be forever missed, for there will never be another Nola Douggie.
