Colin Daniel Poellot

Colin Daniel Poellot (born August 5, 1969) passed away on September 20, 2025, at the age of 56, surrounded by love and in the peace of his home in New Orleans. The cause of death was respiratory failure due to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Colin was born in Syracuse, NY and raised in nearby Tully. He spent his childhood roaming the woods and swamps of central New York State, along with his sister, Tanya, and best friend, Matt. His childhood passion for nature, especially mountains and glaciers, carried into his education, eventually leading him to obtain a Bachelor's of Science in Geology from Long Island University, and a Master's of Science in Geology from Oregon State University.

Although Colin spent his early career in the sciences, his love for BarbaraLynn and all things technical eventually brought him home to New York City, where he began a long and fruitful career as Director of Audio Visual Services at Scholastic, Inc. in SoHo.

In his free time, Colin was often on his bicycle: happily commuting over the Williamsburg Bridge to work everyday and participating in numerous long-distance cycling events, such as RAGBRAI with friends and loved ones. Colin had a lifelong love of music; in his youth he was a trumpet player, and in later life he taught himself the accordion and loved playing with BarbaraLynn and friends in the band poorcolin. He served as a lay minister in various positions at numerous Christian churches throughout his life, and he offered his time and assistance freely to loved ones and neighbors alike.

Colin was also an accomplished film photographer who exhibited in numerous group shows in New York, New Orleans, Portland (OR), and online. His most recent work currently hangs in a show at the Nicolas Boulier Gallery in New Orleans. He was a member of the Film Shooters Collective, the New Orleans Photo Alliance, and AlterWork Studios, home to the Colin Poe Darkroom, the first and only community darkroom in Queens, New York.

Colin is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 28 years, BarbaraLynn Cantone; as well as his parents, Daniel and Ruth Poellot; his sister, Tanya Czajak; and his family-in-law: Carl and Delilah Cantone and Rachel and Carl Cantone Jr., as well as nieces, nephews, godchildren, and many cherished friends. He was recently predeceased by his beloved dog, Bo, who was a consistent joy and comfort to Colin throughout the two years of his illness.
