Mutsy was born on January 22, 1932, in New Orleans, where she grew up and spent her life.
She retired as a secretary in the business division at Delgado Community College.
Mutsy was preceded in death by her parents, Lena Mancuso and Joseph Amato, and her sister, Marguerite Calcagno.
She is survived by her sons, Joseph D. Segretto (Concetta) and John J. Segretto, Jr. (Shalise); grandchildren, Heather Neilsen (B.J.), Michelle Davis (Casey), Alyssa Soto (Michael), Ashley McGehee (Charles), Abby Segretto (Dylan), and John “Jack” J. Segretto III; and four great-grandchildren, William Neilsen, James Neilsen, Thomas Neilsen, and Alena Soto.
Mutsy was an amazing mother and grandmother, but she was also a friend to everyone. She was the kind of person who would say hello to someone she didn’t know and somehow end up talking to them like they had known each other for years. She never really met a stranger. She loved cooking, sewing, and, most of all, being with family.
She was famous for her phone calls and for never forgetting a birthday. She always wanted to know what was going on with everyone. If you hadn’t heard from her in a while, chances were you were about to get a call.
Mutsy loved Elvis Presley and, most of all, her cold Coca-Colas. She always had one nearby and was just as happy to offer one to someone else as she was to enjoy one herself. It was one of the many little things that made her who she was.
She was deeply loved by her family, and she loved them just as deeply. Her family will miss having her to call, hearing her voice, and knowing she was always there.
The family would like to thank everyone who cared for Mutsy throughout her life and everyone who has shared a story or memory of her with them. They are so grateful for every person who loved her and for every memory that has been shared with their family.
The family would also like to thank Dr. Kiran Zaveri and his wonderful staff along with Taylor Glasco, her home health nurse, for all the years of care and compassion they showed her, as well as Notre Dame Hospice and Neptune Society, for helping the family navigate her care and this difficult time.
Family and friends are invited to St. Dominic Church, 775 Harrison Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70124, on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. Visitation will be from 11 AM to 12 PM, with Mass to follow. Following Mass, interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, 5190 Canal Boulevard, New Orleans, LA 70124.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her honor to one of her favorite organizations, St. Jude, to which she donated monthly.
