November 2, 2018, at Brookdale Assisted Living, Kenner,
Louisiana. Carol was born March 5, 1948, in Richmond,
Virginia. The only child of Stuart and Lucille Johnson,
Carol had the good fortune to have had the Butlers as
second parents. Carol always laughingly said that growing
up she could be found at Uncle Cary’s and Aunt Alice’s
home more than her own. Carol was a graduate of
Manchester High, and Longwood College, where she
received a bachelor’s degree in Education.
After finishing college, Carol married her high school
sweetheart, Douglas Kent Hobson. The young couple
lived in Richmond for a time, until Kent’s job transferred
them to Louisiana, to the city that would forever be their
second home: New Orleans.
In January of 1983, Carol and Kent adopted a beautiful
baby girl, who became the light of their life. Though Cary
Stuart always came first in her mother’s heart, Carol had
lots of love to give. And the students she taught over the
years were the fortunate recipients. In Metairie and River
Ridge specifically, Carol spent many happy hours in the
classroom, where she made a positive difference in the life
of every child she taught. Her last tenure as teacher was
at St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic School.
A lover of cats, Carol was mother to four: Oreo, Latte,
Mocha, Jack. All rescued. For Carol‘s heart was always
open to all creatures great and small.
Carol will be dearly missed, but her bright spirit yet lives,
her memory still alive in the minds of all who knew her,
and her love a “forever” gift.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents and her
husband. She is survived by her daughter, Cary Stuart.
In lieu of a funeral, Carol wanted “a celebration of life”, and
Cary will indeed grant her mother’s wish in the near future.
Thanks to all the relatives and friends who have sent Cary
their thoughts and prayers.
