Byron Joseph Lauland, 72 of Marrero, La. Entered into eternal rest on November 10, 2019, with family by his side. He battled cancer fiercely and courageously for nearly 8 years and had an incredible will to live.
He was born to the late John and Gretchel Lauland on July 12, 1947, in Westwego, La. He was a graduate of West Jefferson High School and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1966. He was stationed at Cherry Point in North Carolina and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He was married to his loving and devoted wife, Dawn Gomez Lauland. He was extremely loving and proud of his two daughters, who he adored; Kelly Lopez (Julian) of Metairie, La. And Mindy Monfra (Craig) of Lafayette, La. and his stepdaughter Danielle Urrata (Buddy) of Talisheek, La. He is also survived by his six grandchildren; Jude Urrata, Dani Urrata, Gabriella Monfra, Nicholas Monfra, Elle Urrata and Emma Monfra and one step grandchild; David Lopez. He is also survived by two brothers; Cary (Claudia), and Eric Lauland (Beverly) and one sister Sharon Olsen (Albert Sr.). He was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all.
He owned Bronco’s Nightclub in Gretna, La. from 1980 until 1992. He was employed with Herb’s Supermarket in Lafitte, La. as a Butcher until they closed after Hurricane Katrina, and finally retired from Winn Dixie after many years (and 3 fingers). He enjoyed going to the casino ,bowling, listening to country music, fishing and spending time with family and friends while living each day to the fullest. He loved life and making people laugh with his jokes. He brightened up any room he entered with his smile and incredible sense of humor.
He was so proud of his family, had a heart of gold, and his courage and determination was undeniable. He will be forever missed.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Visitation of Our Lady Catholic Church, 3500 Ames Blvd., Marrero, La at 10:00 a.m. followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m.
