She was born January 10, 1944, to John Fulton and Betty Jane Lowe in Mattoon, Illinois.
Sue deeply loved her family and warmly interacted with all who came her way. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ and enjoyed serving the church by teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. She also participated in Bible study throughout her adult life and served as a Bible Study Fellowship leader.
Sue was an incredibly creative woman who excelled at all forms of needlework: sewing, knitting, crocheting, and quilting. She made and gave away hundreds of beautiful quilts. She was also a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing meals for family gatherings and baking cookies with her grandchildren.
Sue graduated from Champaign (IL) High School and worked at Illinois Bell while she and her husband studied at the University of Illinois. She later earned an Associate Degree in Accounting from Harper Community College and worked at Motorola for a number of years.
She lived most of her life and raised her family in the home that she and her husband built in Inverness, Illinois. They relocated to Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 2022.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, William (Bill) Punkay; her children, Cindy (Craig) Davis and Stephen (Amy) Punkay; her nine treasured grandchildren: Tyler, Brian (Kaysie), and Paris Davis; Rachel (John) Blackwell, Joshua (Alyssa), Daniel (Karleigh), Elijah, Samuel, and Hannah Punkay; one great-grandchild, James Blackwell; and sisters: Nancy Clapp, Jackie Lowe, and Toni Miebach. Sue is preceded in death by her parents and her infant son, Mark William Punkay.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, March 11, at Community Bible Church in Baton Rouge, with visitation from 1pm until time of service. Burial in Illinois will follow at a later date.
