Beloved wife of the late Walter Joseph Hingle Sr. for 63 years. Mother of Walter Joseph Hingle, Jr. and Anna Margaret Hingle Whittaker. Grandmother of Jason Joseph Hingle and great-grandmother of Anna Marie Hingle.
Daughter of the late Charles Joseph O’Malley 2nd and Anna Adelaide McCann. Sister of the late Thomas Edward O’Malley, Charles Joseph O’Malley 3rd, Patrick Homer O’Malley, Melvin James O’Malley, Gerald St. Clair O’Malley, and Floyd Patrick McCann. Aunt of twenty-one nieces and nephews and proud God-mother of one niece, Carol Sue.
During World War II, Anna’s three older brothers served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theatre. Her mother worked in the U.S. war effort as a typesetter-printer. Anna’s father, who was ill with tuberculosis, and her three younger brothers remained home, where Anna “took her mother’s place” at the age of thirteen. She cared for her father and three younger brothers; she cooked for the family and kept the home clean as she attended high school.
She became a gourmet cook and loved to cook for her family throughout her life. Her “favorite dish” was, always, whatever she was cooking for the day. Being an ultimate Irish Catholic, Anna enjoyed life! She loved the Lord and all of his creations!
Anna and Walter were married for sixty-three years. They married at a very young age and grew-up, together. They were very close, and loved each other very much!
Anna was Founder & President of the South Louisiana Chapter of the National Early American Glass Club and Member/Exhibitor at the New Orleans Museum of Art, NOMA. After a successful career as executive secretary with the Johnson & Higgins firm, she opened and managed her lovely Gentilly home as Avilla Bed & Breakfast, LLC., where she entertained guests from all over the world. Both Walter Sr. and Walter Jr. were part of the “team”, and were very active in making a success of the business.
Her son, Walter Jr., then helped her greatly with his father who became debilitated with leukemia and blindness. When her beloved husband died, her son continued as her devoted life partner-caregiver, as Anna became elderly and disabled.
Anna was a member of St. James Major Catholic Church in Gentilly Terrace. She was a very loving Christian wife, mother, and grand-mother. She loved all of her nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was very loyal to her many friends. She loved her neighbors, and continually prayed for all, even passersby as she gazed in wheelchair out of her solarium window onto Gentilly Blvd. She always did and prayed “Everything in Jesus’ Name”! She, being present in Paradise with Jesus and loved ones, will be missed by us, all!
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service for Anna’s inurnment at All Saints Mausoleum, Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124 on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at 1:45 PM.
