Adeline (Dee) Anne Del Fiore Canada, 82, passed away on September 17, 2023, at her home in Slidell, Louisiana. Dee was born in Providence, Rhode Island on December 7, 1940. She graduated from Cranston High School and earned her teaching degree at the University of Rhode Island.
While teaching home economics at a high school in Connecticut, she met her husband, Ray, at an officer club near the Coast Guard Academy where he taught. Their married life took them to various places (Washington, D.C., San Diego, CA, Long Beach, MS, and Seattle, WA), but they settled in Slidell in 1979, where they remained in the same house.
Dee had a deep faith she actively shared with her family. After raising her daughters, she earned a Master in Library Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, blending her love of teaching and books. She worked as a librarian at Dominican High School in New Orleans and St. Margaret Mary School in Slidell before retiring.
Her passion for reading found a new home sharing books with her grandchildren and through her membership in the Friends of the Slidell Library. Dee also enjoyed being active in Sew Dats and found joy in embroidering and sewing items for her grandchildren.
Dee is survived by her husband of 55 years, Raymond H. Canada, Jr., and her daughters Laura O’Neill (Stephen O’Neill) of Poplarville, Mississippi, Nancy Canada (Steve Rabalais) of Slidell, and Sara Canada Guy (Christopher Guy) of Bel Air, Maryland. Grandchildren include Patrick, Rory, Dominic, and Jude O’Neill, David Canada, Jessica Rabalais, and Nicholas, Nolan, and Adeline Guy. She is also survived by her brother James Del Fiore (Donna Del Fiore) of Cranston, Rhode Island, and her sister Phyllis Del Fiore of Slidell.
Dee's life was a testament to her dedication to family, faith, and community. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
A Funeral Mass will be held to honor Dee's life on Friday, September 29, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church, located at Robert Road in Slidell. Visitation is available from 10 a.m. until the Mass. A repass will be at The Venue, 2242 Carey Street in Slidell beginning at 2 p.m.
The family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to Second Harvest Food Bank or World Central Kitchen, charities Dee actively supported
