William Robert Darr was born on October 4,1936 at his home in Foster, Missouri to Lottie Opal and Floyd Darr. Bill was the youngest of 6 children. Growing up Bill spent his time exploring the outdoors, hunting, fishing and swimming in the strip pits with his brother Floyd and friends. While attending Rich Hill High School he starred in football, baseball and track. After high school he went on to Central Missouri State University to play football and lettered in his Freshman year.
After 1 year of college, Bill was hired by General Motors Leeds plant. Shortly after Bill was drafted into the United States Army where he served for nearly 3 years as a wheel mechanic. He spent most of his service time in Germany where he developed a love for the country. Bill returned home and connected with the love of his life Linda Kay Wheeler, and they were married on June 1, 1963. Two years later they welcomed their first child Kevin Robert and 3 years later welcomed their daughter Krista Kay. Bill raised his family in Grandview, Missouri and retired from General Motors in 1992 after over 35 years of service.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish, a passion that he shared with his family and friends. Often going home to his stomping grounds to fish at the Marais Des Cygnes River or hunting quail. Bill loved going on fishing trips with friend Merle Teigen to Canada and Minnesota. He always had quick wit with jokes and stories for anyone he encountered. He was amazing at remembering even the slightest details of games he played in, his time in the military or his many outdoor adventures. His life was a wonderful open book.
Bill was best known for his quiet strength, kindness and humility. Committed to his family as a provider and someone you could always count on. Volunteering his services to his church, his neighbors and frankly anyone who needed help. Later in his life he was able to pass on his legacy to his two grandsons Zachary and Joshua. His influence on their life is evident today as they saw a man who modeled a life of love and integrity.
Bill left this earthly plane peacefully with Linda by his side on Monday, June 22, 2026, at the age of 89. He is survived by his wife Linda Kay Darr, daughter Krista Kay Story, son-in-law Darron Story, his grandsons Zachary Lewis Story and Joshua Robert Story as well as several nephews and cousins.
