William "Bill" Clow, 89, died peacefully at his home on April 24th, 2025. Bill was born on September 4th, 1935, in Independence, MO, to William A. and Mildred Clow. He graduated from Kansas University with a degree in engineering physics and received his master’s degree from the University of Missouri, Kansas City, in the area of physics. Bill first worked for Midwest Research Institute after graduation. He then worked at Western Electric/AT&T as a planning engineer until his retirement. Throughout his career, Bill often worked part-time as a movie projectionist in different movie theatres in the Kansas City area. After his retirement from AT&T, he taught college physics and astronomy classes for Metropolitan Community College.
Bill married Sandra L. Hight in 1955, and together they raised three children: Ric, Marcy, and Randy.
Bill and Sandy lived in Independence for most of their married life. Bill enjoyed many hobbies, including woodworking (transforming a small bedroom into a library), landscaping/gardening (building a stone wall and raised-bed garden in his backyard), reading (a true lover of all genres of books), and astronomy (building his own telescope). He was also an ordained minister in the Community of Christ.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, William A. and Mildred Clow, and his daughter, Marcy (Clow) Sapp.
Bill is survived by his wife, Sandy; his children, Ric (Kris) Clow, and Randy (Katie) Clow; his sisters Donna (Gary) Craig and Joan (Lloyd) Baker; his grandchildren: Katie, Grayson, Mackenzie, Cory, and Hallee; his great-grandchild, Evan; and many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Colonial Hills Community of Christ in Blue Springs, MO, on Sunday, May 18. Guests may greet the family from 2:00 – 3:00 pm, with a service following from 3:30 – 4:30 pm.
