was born January 14, 1951 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Donald and Olive Witz and passed away peacefully at KC Hospice House on May 23, 2026 following ongoing medical complications. Cremation through the Neptune Society.
Steve was a much loved husband, son, father, stepfather, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to all.
He moved to Kansas City in 1974 with Cort Furniture Rental and in 1983 became Warehouse Manager for Zep Manufacturing where he worked for 25 years until retiring in 2008.
He loved sports, especially bowling and golf and watching Minnesota hockey, the Vikings, Chiefs & KU Basketball.
Steve married Sharon Riley and had 2 children, Carly and Bryan Witz who made him so proud, and in1992 married Linda and became stepdad to Traci and Bryan Upp.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Ollie, baby grandson Maverick Weidman, sister Bonnie & brother in law Gaylord Aldinger, Minneapolis & numerous aunts and uncles and is survived by wife, Linda, Overland Park, Ks; son Bryan Witz, Kansas City; daughter Carly Witz Weidman (Wes), Overland Park, Ks; stepdaughter Traci Upp (Brett), San Francisco; Bryan Upp (Natalie) Lenexa, Ks; 7 grandchildren whom he absolutely adored: Payton Witz, Hailey and Grace Weidman, Harlan Witz, Marley and Ellie Upp & Palmer Finkelstein; brother Roy Witz (Lori), Tucson; sister Cindee DeNunzio, Rosemount, Mn & beloved nieces, nephews & cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held July 11 from 2-4 pm at the Isaac Apartments Gathering Room, 7200 W. 127th Street, Overland Park, KS. Additional information will be available on the Neptune Society webpage closer to the date.
