Sandra Lee Carlson, a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away on September 26, 2026, at the age of 72. While her family’s hearts are broken by her passing, they find comfort in knowing how deeply she loved them.
Sandra was born on March 20, 1954, in Albany, New York. At an early age, she moved to the Bethel, Vermont area, where she grew up and later graduated from Whitcomb High School in 1973.
Of all the roles Sandra had in her life, being a mother and grandmother was the one she treasured most. Her children were her heart, and her grandchildren were her greatest joy. She loved them fiercely and unconditionally. She worried about them, laughed with them, listened to them, encouraged them, and was always there when they needed her.
Sandra didn’t just love her children and grandchildren—she lived for them. Their happiness was her happiness. She treasured phone calls, visits, family gatherings, holidays, and all the ordinary moments that become the most precious memories after someone is gone. She was proud of every one of them and never needed a special occasion to let them know how much they meant to her. Her grandchildren held an especially special place in her heart. She loved watching them grow, hearing about their lives, and making memories with them.
Sandra found happiness in the little things. She loved reading, Sudoku and logic puzzles, a good cup of coffee, and—perhaps most of all—a long phone conversation. She enjoyed knitting, dancing, watching movies, and cheering loudly for the Kansas City Chiefs. She also had a love for traveling and enjoyed the excitement of seeing new places and making memories along the way. One trip that will always hold a special place in her heart was her trip to Key West with her daughter. It was a special time they shared together, filled with laughter, adventure, and memories that will be treasured.
Sandra loved UNO, Rummy, and several other card games. She was fiercely competitive and took great pleasure in beating her children, grandchildren, and anyone else who dared to challenge her. There was probably a little teasing, a lot of laughter, and maybe a few accusations of cheating along the way—but those games became treasured family memories.
Sandra’s home, her phone calls, her laughter, and her presence were woven into the lives of the people she loved. Losing her leaves an emptiness that cannot be filled. Her children will miss having their mom to call, her advice, her love, and simply knowing she was there. Her grandchildren will miss her love. Sandra gave her family a lifetime of love. She leaves behind memories that will be cherished, stories that will be retold, and a love that will never disappear.
Sandra is survived by her heartbroken children, Devon Kenny, Cecelia Carlson; her sons, Matthew Whitmore (Charmaine), Ryan Kenny (Lisa), Jesse Carlson (Taylor), and Tom Carlson (Hannah); 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy; her sister, Deborah Beebe; her brothers, Shaun Morse and Harold Dewey; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other beloved relatives.
Sandra was preceded in death by her beloved son, Craig Kenny; her grandmother, Nellie Saunders, lovingly referred to as “Ma”; father, Wayne Morse; mother, Betty Dewey; brother, Wayne Morse; grandson, Treyvyn Whitmore; and many other cherished family members.
