He leaves seven grandchildren: Kayla Loar, Austin Loar (wife Mercedes), Gracie Hime, Cooper Hime, Neeley Lewis (husband Adam), Tessa Hime, Bailee Hime, great-grandson Agustin “Gus” Loar, nephew, Phil Hime and his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice E. and Violet E. (Harris) Hime, and his brothers, James H. Hime (infant),
Roger M. Hime (wife Ginny), of Raymore.
Dick was born on February 22, 1947, in Carroll, Iowa, and lived in Exira, Iowa until age three. He lived in Leon, Iowa from 1950 until 1962 and attended Leon Public Schools (later known as Central Decatur Schools) from kindergarten through his freshman year. The family relocated in 1962 to Avoca, Iowa, where he graduated from Avo-Ha High School in 1965.
Following high school, he attended General Motors Institute of Technology, Flint, Michigan, studying Engineering until 1966. He met his wife, Karen, when they were both employed at the Fisher Body Plant in Kansas City, Missouri, and they were married April 15, 1967. Two months later Dick was inducted into the U.S. Army and trained as a Combat Infantry Non-Commissioned Officer (Sgt. E-5) at Fort Benning, Georgia and Fort Polk, Louisiana. He served with Mike Platoon, Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division (The Big Red One) in South Vietnam as a Squad Leader and later as a Platoon Sergeant. He was awarded a Purple Heart for combat injuries, the Combat Air Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, and two Army Commendations for Valor. He left active duty in 1969 and was Honorably Discharged from the inactive Reserves in 1973.
He attended Central Missouri State University from 1969 through 1972 majoring in Business Administration while working full-time at Joe and Jay’s Phillips 66 and later as a technician at Adams Toyota Raytown. He worked at Adams Toyota for 19 years and was Director of Fixed Operations when he left in 1989. He held the same position at Fleetwood Chevrolet in Belton, Missouri, until 1994 when he became National Claims Manager for Vehicle Service Contracts at Universal Underwriters, Inc. (now Zurich) until 2001. At that time, he joined a start-up company, Universal Asset Management, Inc., as Director of Operations. He retired from there in 2011.
He also continually operated Raymore Outdoor Sports, LLC, from his home from 1980 until his passing. He was a Federal Firearms Licensed gun dealer and personal defense consultant and certified firearms instructor and made hundreds of friends through this business. He and Karen have been members of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Raymore, since 1980, where he served in many positions including Leadership Team, Lay Speaker, Trustees, Adult Sunday School, Youth Group, Ushers, Safety Team, and in music performance over the years. He was a dispatcher, and later a Patrol Division Sergeant on the Raymore Missouri Police Department Reserves from 1973 until 1981.
His hobbies and pastimes included general aviation (Instrument-rated private pilot), traveling, “glamping” in their 5th wheel trailer, ham radio, guitar, photography, writing, shooting, story-telling, boating, cars, trucks, airplanes, and motorcycles. He loved electronics and anything mechanical and possessed a wide range of technical skills. Most of all, he loved to laugh at himself and others who could stand the “heat in the kitchen”.
His greatest accomplishment was catching and keeping Karen for nearly six decades, who loved him unconditionally in spite of his many faults, shortcomings, and quirks. She changed him profoundly with her steadfast love and Christian principles and he was forever grateful for that. His final request was to be sure that his Visitation and/or Memorial Service be filled with laughter, singing, and memories shared in profound gratitude for our eternal salvation in Jesus Christ. Until we meet again - Rejoice!

Notes added by family:
Dick Hime was loved by many for his gregarious personality. He was always willing to lend a hand, share a story, educate, entertain, and protect. He was generous with his time, wisdom, and resources. He owned his mistakes, asked for forgiveness and was quick to offer forgiveness. Some of his frequently used quotes were: “Everyone is entitled to my opinion.” “Live in readiness, not fear.” He walked daily in immense faith and gratitude and publicly shared both at every opportunity.
There will be a private burial at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, MO. Dick specifically requested a joyful party rather than a traditional memorial service. He wants a fun atmosphere with lots of laughs and memories shared amongst friends and family. There will be a party (likely in March 2027) to celebrate the joy-filled life Dick was so grateful for. Details will be shared once finalized. The mailing address for the Hime family going forward is PO Box 916, Raymore, MO 64083. We invite you to share your favorite memories and stories about Dick.
