Richard "Dick" Henige, 94, died peacefully on March 17 in Leawood, Kansas. Dick was born on September 28, 1930, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Albert and Clarissa (Potter) Henige. He married his school sweetheart Joan Finnegan in 1952. They were married until her passing in 2000.
During the Korean War, Dick was inducted into the Marine Corps and served in the typing pool (aka the "Remington Raiders") at Norco Naval Air Station in California. A son, Richard, was born there. After his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, Dick and Joan returned to St. Louis, where fraternal twins Keiren and Keith and then another daughter, Jean, were born. Dick joined International Business Machines (aka "I've Been Moved") in St. Louis where he worked in Business Administration for his entire career. Dick was soon transferred by IBM to Topeka, Kansas where a third daughter, Victoria, was born. At that time, Dick and Joan had five children under the age of 5. After a few years in Topeka, Dick was transferred to Omaha, Nebraska and then to Kansas City where their sixth child, Rose, was born.
