Obituary and Loving Note from Robert Mildred “Penny” Louise (Harkins) Whinery was born on April 29, 1940 in San Antonio, TX to Buster and Gladys (Standridge) Harkins. On December 12, 2017 she passed in her home as her husband Robert held her hands and laid by her side. Her red hair earned her the nickname “Penny” by her grandfather and it stuck with her. Penny’s grandfather was the one who made sure she attended school so she could become a LPN leading to a career as a Nuclear Medical Technician. Penny enjoyed her career for over 45 years before retiring from St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City. She was a beautiful person, loving wife, and mother. As a woman of honor she was known for her honesty and integrity. Penny was a true daughter of Texas and very proud of it. Penny was also a talented artist and enjoyed caring for indoor plants. As an avid reader she was knowledgeable on many subjects. Penny was predeceased by her parents, daughter, Jennifer Pruitt and brother, Jerry Harkins. She leaves behind her beloved husband, Robert; children, Larry Pruitt, Karen Pruitt, Michael Landreth and step-son, David Whinery; sister, Kathy Morin; along with 7 grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren. Loving Note from Robert As her husband for the last 22 years, I was honored to love and be loved by the most wonderful person I ever met. We had so many things in common and thought so much alike. Some referred to us as having one brain. Penny was very honest in thought and deed, she would drive back 30 miles to return to much change! Penny was always totally devoted to her family and loved them all. As her husband I received the bountiful love and devotion every day of our lives together and returned it with love and devotion to the most wonderful woman God ever created. I was so blessed to have her for a while and will always love her. Wait for me my love, we will be together again.
