Melba Niblock, age 88, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family at her side. Born December 17, 1937, in Albuquerque her love for the city carried forth even after her move to Kansas City, Missouri in 2024.
Deeply proud of her heritage, Melba carried its traditions and values throughout her life. She served her family faithfully and generously, offering strength, guidance, and unconditional love. Her home and heart were always open, and she found her greatest joy in collecting Beanie Babies to share with those she loved. A simple reminder of her generosity.
A doting mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who treasured every moment spent with her family. She celebrated their joys, supported them through challenges, and created memories that will be cherished for generations. Her pride in her family was unmistakable, and her love was a constant source of comfort and belonging.
She is survived by her children and stepchildren, Donna Russell (John), Dee Cappelle, Lesman Contreras (Sharon), Lori Tyrer (Steve), Jay Niblock (Christine), grandchildren and great grandchildren who were blessed by her life. Melba was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Henry D. Niblock, Jr; her stepdaughter, Linda Severeid; and her stepson, Henry “Chip” D. Niblock, III.
Her presence will be missed tremendously, but her legacy of love, heritage, loyalty, and devotion will live on in all who knew her. The family will forever remember her mouth-watering enchiladas, steady strength, generous spirit, and the immeasurable love she gave so freely.
Services will be held in June 2027 at Santa Fe National Cemetery where Melba will be rejoined with Henry in their final resting place.
