Marianne August (Donahue) McGrath, born October 23, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026. She was raised by her loving parents (Marjorie and William) with her two wonderful brothers (William and Donald) who all precede her in death. After graduating in 1958 from St. Mary’s of Redford High School, she left Detroit to become a flight attendant with TWA and subsequently made her home in Leawood and Overland Park, Kansas where she raised her three daughters. She enjoyed a full career as a cardiovascular technician, and her life was also richly defined by her family and friends, and her skill and energy were greatly reflected in her favorite pastimes.
She was widely known as a formidable tennis player and a lover of art and music. Her connection to the tennis community extended beyond the court through her volunteerism, where she contributed her time and spirit in support of the sport she loved. Reflecting her deep appreciation for the Arts, Marianne volunteered for many years at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. She loved to paint and produced many cherished works herself. She was always up for an adventure, loved to travel, and lived a life marked by dedication, a good sense of humor, and a broad circle of love. In short, a fabulous woman and a loving friend, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. She leaves behind memories that will be cherished by all who were lucky enough to know her.
Marianne is survived by her three daughters and sons in law (Ann and Stephen, Mimi and Ken, Kate and Dave) and six incredible grandchildren who were a source of great pride and joy. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law and two nieces who will carry her memory forward with love and heart. Marianne will be remembered for the many ways she participated fully in life and the lasting impression she made through her career, her community involvement, and the time she shared with those who loved her. She will be missed forever.
