Leonard “Larry” Cook, 82, of Leavenworth, Kansas, passed away on September 26. Known for his devoted service, steady work ethic, and love for those around him, Larry leaves behind a legacy cherished by family, friends, and all who knew him.
Born in Hannibal, Missouri, Larry proudly served in the U.S. Army for 27 years, retiring as a Sergeant Major. Following his distinguished military career, he dedicated himself to purchasing, restoring, and renting homes throughout Leavenworth. He was also a proud member of the Weston Masonic Lodge, the Order of Eastern Star, and the Abdallah Shrine Temple in Overland Park.
Larry is survived by his wife, Donna Cook; daughters, Wendy Cook and Carmen Cook (Mike Peek); grandchildren, Shea Craig (Noam Spector) and Andrew Craig (Emely Gomez); and brothers, Russell Cook (Marsha) and Ronnie Cook (Linda). He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Venetta Cook, and his son, Jack Cook.
In keeping with Larry’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 16, at Rock of Ages Church, 1017 Randolph Street, Leavenworth. Visitation begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. A committal service with military honors will take place afterward at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road, where Larry will be laid to rest in the columbarium wall. Lunch will be provided at Rock of Ages Church following the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
