Kevin Robert Darr was born on March 13, 1967, to William R and Linda K Darr in Kansas City, Missouri. He passed away in his sleep on April 27th, 2026. Kevin grew up in Grandview, Missouri, and resided around the Kansas City area.
Sports were a huge part of Kevin's life. He was a heralded athlete at Grandview Sr High in both football and track. Kevin was a part of the 1984 Grandview Bulldog football team that was runner-up in the state final. Kevin and his teammates from the 1984 squad were inducted into the Grandview High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2022. His track exploits were equally as successful, as he was a long-term school record-holder. He ran the 100m and 200m dashes and was a part of multiple relay teams.
Kevin went on to attend the University of Missouri, where he received his bachelor's degree in Horticulture in 1989. It made perfect sense that he chose this to be his career path, as he always had a love and passion for plants and the outdoors. Kevin took great pride in creating everything from Japanese gardens with water features to the perfect lawn. He enjoyed many years in the nursery business, where he was able to help and empower people with his knowledge while caring for plants and trees.
At an early age, Kevin and his family started camping in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado on vacations. He loved hiking and exploring the outdoors and fell in love with God's creation. As a teenager, he was introduced to Sky Ranch Lutheran Camp in Bellvue, Colorado, by his Pastor at Lord of Love Lutheran Church. Kevin attended the camp with his friends from church in the summer and, as an adult, went back to volunteer. The mountains of Colorado were always his happy place
Sports remained important to Kevin as an adult. He was a die-hard Chiefs and Mizzou fan, but most of all, he loved going to his nephews' games and track meets. The pride he had watching Zach and Josh have success in their sports gave him great joy.
Kevin found his purpose through helping people. He volunteered at Flourishing Furnishings for years—he loved that it helped people with housing insecurity get a fresh start.
Kevin is survived by his parents, William and Linda Darr, his sister Krista Story and brother-in-law Darron Story, his nephews Zachary and Joshua Story, and a host of cousins.
