Johnny was born August 30th, 1948, in Kansas City Missouri. Johnny lived his whole life as a fighter. Johnny’s first obstacle was at birth when he was diagnosed with Spina Bifida. He wasn’t supposed to be able to walk or live any sort of normal life. After proving the doctors wrong early on in life, he faced additional health issues as an adolescent, which required a very serious surgery. The prognosis was bleak; the doctors said he wouldn’t make it past his early twenties. During his recovery is when “Johnny I” was born. Johnny was given a guitar since he was bedridden while healing. It didn’t take Johnny long to learn and fall in love with playing the guitar. By age 16 he was playing at any local venue that would have him. Music was Johnny’s love and lived his life for it. Johnny was in many bands and performed across the United States and even made a trip to Germany to perform. He became so well known for his guitar playing skills that in 2012, he was inducted into the Kansas Music Hall of Fame.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents Earl Isom Sr. and Eva Isom, his sister Margaret Harvey, and brother James Isom. Johnny is survived by his wife Kathy Estes, his daughters Patricia LeeAnn Robertson (Howard), and Ginny Ziegler, his brother Earl Isom Jr. (Sue), many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
