James (Jim) Robert Long was born on December 7th, 1945 in St. Joseph, MO to Floyd and Bernice (Bradley) Long. Jim passed in the comfort of his home in Kansas City surrounded by his loving family on September 25, 2016. . A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 30, 2016 at White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE Antioch Rd, Gladstone, MO. He was a very active man who loved his family dearly, making sure he didn’t miss an activity his children or grandchildren were involved in until his health mandated he slow down. This year he celebrated with his wife, Ruth 50 years of commitment and love. Jim spent most of his life in sales and also became a stock broker for a while. He started out in radio advertising and was so successful he started his own company. He had the honor of serving his community as Municipal Court Judge for 12 years at Lake Waukomis and being named their Citizen of the year in 1996. He also served on the Board of Directors of their Homeowners Association and the Conservation Committee. He later served as a member of the Smithville Zoning and Planning Committee. He was a distinguished member of MENSA. Jim had a variety of hobbies including: fishing, hunting, music trivia, and cheering on the Royals and Chiefs. He also loved his Corvettes, owning five different models in his lifetime and belonging to the Corvette Club. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kenneth. He now watches over his beloved wife, Ruth, his daughters, Stacie Miller and Leslie Toledo and husband Marlon: grandchildren; Cody Miller, Reana Dial, Eva Toledo, Sabina Toledo, and Benicio Toledo, daughter of his heart, Amber Given, along with many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
