Harley L Miller, 86 of Kansas City, Mo, who passed away from congestive heart failure, was born May 7, 1937 in Charles City, IA , the youngest of 4 children, to Harley Ivan Miller and Mildred V Hauser Miller. In 1947, the family moved back to Neligh, NE. He graduated high school in Neligh in 1955 and continued his education at Wayne State College, where he received his BA in Music Education.
He taught instrumental music in several rural Nebraska schools. He began working on his MA at the University of Kansas and completed it at UMKC. While teaching at North Bend , NE, he met and married Patricia (Lambert), who happened to be the vocal music teacher at North Bend in 1964. They welcomed a daughter, Noel in 1965.
In 1966, the family moved to Kansas City, MO where he continued his music career in the North Kansas City School District for 30 years. The family enjoyed symphony concerts, plays, and all types of music. Harley’s main instrument was the tuba, but he could play any instrument. His hobbies included bird hunting, collecting and restoring antique radios, genealogy, travel and computers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Verle, sisters Joyce and Frances.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, daughter Noel Bishop (Shane), grandson Gordon M Hendrix, step-granddaughter Maxine Bishop , step- great granddaughter Jenny, cat,, Caiti and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Grace & Holy Trinity (Episcopal) Cathedral on August 17, 2023 at 11 am. A reception to follow in Founder’s Hall. In leiu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of Parkville Animal Shelter 1356 MO-9, Parkville, MO 64152 or the church. Neptune Cremation Society is in charge of arrangements.
