Genie was born on September 30th, 1954, in Artesia, New Mexico to Gene and Yvonne Parnell. The family moved to Seattle, Washington for a short time. They relocated to Gillette, Wyoming, where she graduated from Campbell County High School in May 1973.
While in Gillette, Genie gave birth to two beautiful daughters, Myndi and Brandi. Gillette was also the place that her career as an insurance underwriter began. This work was meaningful to her, as it began at her parent's business. She eventually moved back to her hometown of Artesia in the early 1990s. Artesia was the place where Genie found the love of Partylite candles, Snow Village houses, and Kevin Costner films. She became an avid collector of them all. In 2005, Genie made her way to Colorado. This is where her fourteen-year battle with cancer began.
Genie was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Yvonne. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Myndi Jewell, of Artesia, New Mexico, and Brandi Weller (Bobby) of Olathe, Kansas; a brother, Ross Parnell (Serena) of Hulett, Wyoming; a sister, Diana Statzula (Joe) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandchildren Katelyn Wilson, Nicole Jewell, Annamarie and John Weller; and 2 great-grandchildren, Jeremiah and Stevie Ray Jewell; along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A private celebration of life will be held for family and close friends to honor her memory. We express our gratitude for your thoughts and prayers.
